Ways to get there

  1. Metro

Syntagma station, Metro Lines 2 and 3

About 9 minutes on foot from Plaka. Line 3 reaches the airport in about 39 minutes with a €9 airport ticket (€16 return); airport trains run every 36 minutes. Check STASY's current Line 3 timetable before an evening airport trip. Its dated works notice covered 11–15 and 18–22 October 2026, when late direct trains were curtailed and the temporary X20 linked Ambelokipi with Halandri. Do not plan around X20 or the 21:06/21:10 last-through times without a current operator notice. The X95 from Syntagma is an all-night alternative.

Questions before you go

Which metro station is closest?

It depends on the end of Plaka. Brettos on Kydathineon gives its distances as 400 m from Akropoli and 800 m from Syntagma, and the Adrian Hotel on Adrianou is 150 m from Monastiraki.

Is the ordinary metro ticket valid to the airport?

No. The airport section needs its own €9 single or €16 return ticket; the €1.20 ticket of 90 minutes and the daily and five-day tickets do not cover it. The €20 three-day tourist ticket includes one return trip to the airport by metro or express bus.

Can I reach the airport by metro late in the evening?

Check STASY's current Line 3 timetable before an evening airport trip. Its dated works notice covered 11–15 and 18–22 October 2026, when late direct trains were curtailed and the temporary X20 linked Ambelokipi with Halandri. Do not plan around X20 or the 21:06/21:10 last-through times without a current operator notice. The X95 from Syntagma is an all-night alternative.

Does the metro run all night?

Only on Saturdays, when Lines 2 and 3 run 24 hours. The all-night service does not go to or from the airport.
