Getting to Makrygianni

Makrygianni's station is Akropoli on Metro Line 2, 2 minutes from Syntagma, where you change for Line 3 to the airport. From the airport, Line 3 reaches Syntagma in about 40 minutes on a €9 airport ticket; the X95 bus runs to Syntagma around the clock for €5.50. A licensed taxi charges a flat €50 by day or €65 from midnight to 05:00 to the city-centre inner ring. Tram T6 stops at L. Vouliagmenis and Fix on its way from Syntagma to the coast.

  1. Metro

    Akropoli station, Metro Line 2

    On Makrygianni Street beside the museum, 2 minutes from Syntagma, where Line 3 runs to Monastiraki and the airport. Trains start at 05:30; the last leave the termini just after midnight from Sunday to Thursday and at about 01:40 on Fridays, and on Saturdays Line 2 runs all night. The station is fully accessible.

  2. Metro

    From the airport by metro

    Airport trains on Line 3 run every 36 minutes and take about 40 minutes to Syntagma; change there to Line 2 for one stop to Akropoli. The €9 airport ticket (€16 return) is valid for 90 minutes, so it covers the change. Check STASY's current Line 3 timetable before an evening airport trip. Its dated works notice covered 11–15 and 18–22 October 2026, when late direct trains were curtailed and the temporary X20 linked Ambelokipi with Halandri. Do not plan around X20 or the 21:06/21:10 last-through times without a current operator notice. The X95 from Syntagma is an all-night alternative.

  3. Bus

    X95 airport bus

    Runs 24 hours between the airport and Syntagma Square for €5.50, about 60 minutes depending on traffic; pay with a contactless card at the validator. The bus ticket covers that one journey only: from Syntagma take Line 2 one stop to Akropoli on a €1.20 ticket, or walk about 16 minutes.

    Tram T6, L. Vouliagmenis and Fix stops

    L. Vouliagmenis, about 350 m east of the museum in a straight line, is 5 minutes from Syntagma and 27 from the coast at Edem; Fix, the next stop at 7 minutes from Syntagma, is about 430 m south of the museum in a straight line. The first tram leaves Syntagma at 05:30 and the last at 00:50 (Fridays 01:40); on Saturdays trams run all night.

  5. Taxi

    Taxi from the airport

    Licensed airport taxis charge a flat €50 to the city-centre inner ring from 05:00 to midnight and €65 from midnight to 05:00, set by the time you arrive and including all surcharges. The rank is at Arrivals Exit 3; Herodion puts the ride at about 45 minutes, depending on traffic.

    Buses and trolleybuses at Makrigianni

    The museum's nearest stop, Makrigianni, is served by many bus routes, among them 24, 40 and 57, and by trolleybuses 1, 5 and 15. Tourist coaches drop off on Hatzichristou Street.

Questions before you go

Do I need to change trains from the airport?

Yes, once: Line 3 to Syntagma, then Line 2 one stop to Akropoli. Only the airport trains, every 36 minutes, run to the airport, and the €9 ticket is valid for the change.

What if I land late on a weeknight?

Is there a late-night metro?

On Saturdays Lines 2 and 3 run all night, except the airport section. On Fridays the last Line 2 trains leave the termini at about 01:40; on other nights just after midnight.

Can I walk from Syntagma?

Yes. The Acropolis Museum is about 16 minutes on foot from Syntagma, or 2 minutes by Line 2 to Akropoli.
