Koukaki area guide

Where to stay in Koukaki

Stay in Koukaki to walk to the Acropolis and keep Metro Line 2 close: Syngrou-Fix is 3 minutes from Syntagma. Athens Studios is at the Makrygianni end, 150 m from the Acropolis Museum by the operator's count. Marble House is a family-run pension in the residential streets, and Acropolis Hill Hotel is on the Filopappou side with an outdoor pool. If you sleep lightly, avoid rooms on Syngrou Avenue or above the Drakou Street bars.

Questions before you go

Is Koukaki quiet at night?

Not everywhere. Syngrou Avenue on the south-eastern edge carries heavy traffic, and Drakou Street's cafés turn into bars in the evening, with late-night eateries busy with clubbers at weekends. Ask for a room away from both if you sleep lightly.

How do I get from the airport to a Koukaki hotel?

Take Metro Line 3 to Syntagma, about 40 minutes on a €9 ticket that also covers 90 minutes on other city transport, and change to Line 2 for Akropoli or Syngrou-Fix. The X95 bus runs to Syntagma all night for €5.50. A licensed taxi charges a flat €50 by day or €65 from midnight to 05:00.

Where do I park near my hotel?

The STASY car park at Syngrou-Fix metro is open 24 hours with 642 spaces: €8 for a full weekday and €4 for a weekend day. Street bays vary by street, so read the signs.
