  4. Street parking

Street parking and City of Athens zones

Koukaki is not on the City of Athens' list of controlled-parking zones (zones 1 to 11; Plaka's zone 7 ends at Dionysiou Areopagitou), and the city's September 2026 announcement of the AthensWay app does not name it. A plan to add Makrygianni was voted down in March 2022. A City notice of April 2024 does list Koukaki–Makrygianni among districts where paid (P69) and residents' (P70) bays were repainted, so follow the sign on each street. In a white paid bay: €0.50 per 30 minutes up to €2 for two hours, €4 at two and a half hours and €6 at the three-hour maximum, Monday to Friday 09:00–21:00 and Saturday 09:00–16:00, with no charge on Sundays and public holidays. Blue bays are for residents at all hours. Pay in the AthensWay app, which replaced myAthensPass, or at a kiosk. The fine is €10 in a paid bay and €40 in a residents' bay.

Questions before you go

Is Koukaki a controlled-parking zone?

The City of Athens zone list does not name it, and extending the zones to Makrygianni was voted down in March 2022. Some streets do have paid (P69) and residents' (P70) bays, repainted in 2024, so read the sign before you park; blue residents' bays carry a €40 fine.

What does a day at Syngrou-Fix cost?

€8 for 10 to 24 hours on a weekday, or €4.50 for up to 10 hours; €4 for a whole day at the weekend. A month costs €120, or €96 with an unlimited-travel public transport card.

Is there parking at the EMST?

No. The museum has no public car park and points visitors to the 24-hour car park at Syngrou-Fix metro.

Can I leave the car and take the metro into the centre?

Yes. The Syngrou-Fix car park connects underground to the metro: Syntagma is 3 minutes away on Line 2, and the tram T6 stop at Fix is 7 minutes from Syntagma.
