Makrygianni area guide

Parking in Makrygianni

Parking for Makrygianni means a garage outside the quarter: we found no public garage inside it, and its streets are not in the City of Athens zone list. The STASY car park at Syngrou-Fix metro station, about 500 m south of the museum, is open 24/7 with 642 spaces, from €3.50 for three hours on weekdays. MetroPark on Mitropoleos, about 750 m north-east, charges €12 on entry and €1 for each extra hour. Disabled visitors can arrange to park at the museum.

  4. Street parking

Street parking in Makrygianni (City of Athens)

Makrygianni is not in the City of Athens list of eleven controlled-parking zones: Dionysiou Areopagitou is a boundary street of zone 7 (Plaka), and the street itself has been car-free since 2003. A plan to add Makrygianni to the zones failed in the city council in March 2022. Inside the zones, white bays are for visitors (€0.50 per 30 minutes up to €2 for two hours, €4 at two and a half, €6 at the three-hour maximum) and blue bays are for residents at all hours; pay in the AthensWay app, by card or at service points.

Questions before you go

Is there controlled parking in Makrygianni?

The City of Athens zone list does not include it; zone 7 (Plaka) ends at Dionysiou Areopagitou, and a 2022 plan to extend the zones to Makrygianni was voted down. Read the kerb signs anyway: a P69 sign with white lines marks a paid visitor bay, a P70 sign with blue lines a resident bay.

What do three hours cost?

€3.50 on a weekday or €1.50 at the weekend at the Syngrou-Fix car park, €14 at MetroPark, and €6 in a white visitor bay inside a City of Athens zone.

Where can a disabled visitor park?

At the Acropolis Museum by arrangement, through the car entrance on Makrygianni Street; call the museum first. Cars with a disability badge park free in white visitor bays in the city's zones at all times, and the Syngrou-Fix car park has accessible bays on every floor.

Can I park and take the metro in?

Yes. The Syngrou-Fix car park connects underground to the station, one stop from Akropoli and two from Syntagma on Line 2. Holders of a monthly transport card pay lower rates.
